Course Offerings

Guitar I :

Guitar I is an intodcution to the guitar.  This class covers all of the basics of guitar playing including strumming chords, playing simple melodies and basic music theory.

Classroom Expectations:
1. Students will be in class on time with instrument, music, books, notebook and a pencil.
2. Students will work diligently at their stations each day.
3. Students will follow the teacher directions at all times.
4. Students will not eat or drink in class.
5. Students will not indulge in any behavior that disrupts other students learning.


Note: Out of class practice is encouraged.

Grading Procedures:
40%- Daily Practice Grades
You must be in class practicing or working in order to receive credit for daily practice. Excused missed class time will require make up practice to receive daily points.

40%- Playing Tests
Frequent playing tests will be given on classroom assignments.
20%- Theory and other written work

Materials Needed:
  ~ Acoustic Guitar
  ~ Guitar students must have their own acoustic guitar for in class practice.
  ~ Workbooks
  ~ H.O.T. Book 1 $15.00
  ~ Guitar Theory 1 $ 6.00
Total: $21.00
You must purchase your workbooks through the PCHS School Store.


Guitar II:

Guitar II is for intermediate / advanced guitarists.  Guitar II applies all the skills learned in Guitar I through more advanced repertoire in a variety of styles.  Intermediate and advanced techniques are learned including classical / folk fingerstyle, barre chords, moveable chords / scales, sweep-picking, tapping, lead guitar melodies and advanced music theory.

2. Students will work diligently at their stations each day.
3. Students will follow the teacher directions at all times.
4. Students will not eat or drink in class.
5. Students will not indulge in any behavior which disrupts other students learning.

Students may purchase books at local music stores, however books will be available for purchase in the PCHS school store at cost. Please buy them as soon as possible.
