Course Offerings

Piano I :

Class Piano is an independent study class.  Assignments will be given based on a student's level of musical skill, background and proficiency. Grades will be earned accordingly.

Classroom Expectations:

1.Students will be in class on time with all music books,  a notebook, personal headphones, an adapter and a pencil.

2.Students will bring and use personal head phones with adapters daily.

2.Students will work diligently at their stations each day.

3.Students will follow the teacher directions at all times.

4.Students will not eat or drink in class.

5.Students will not indulge in any behavior which disrupts other students learning.

Note:Out of class practice is encouraged.

Grading Procedures:

45% - Daily Participation and Practice Grades

Students must be in class practicing or working on another directed class activity in order to receive credit for each class.  Students with excused absences may do makeup work during lab or after school to makeup daily credit. Students with unexcused absences will not be allowed to do makeup work.

45-50% - Playing or Written Tests, Worksheets, Computer Work & Semester Final

Repertoire playing tests will be given in units of text material. - 200 pts
Technical playing tests will be given in units of text material. - 100 pts

Theory and history written work will be assigned on a weekly basis. - 100 pts
Points will be deducted if work is completed after the due date.

5-10% - Class Performances
Once students are comfortable with personal performance, short in-class performances will be given.

Each student will be required to purchase workbooks or other music. Each student will be required to have:

personal headphones with 1/4 inch plug or 1/4 inch adapter for this course. Students must provide their own headphones. Students may purchase books at local music stores, however workbooks and adapters will be available for purchase in the PCHS book store at cost.

3.Alfred: The Essentials of Music Theory Book 1
Piano Workbooks are $21.00.
Headphone adapters are $2.25 each.

Daily credit will be lost if a students fails to bring working headphones with adapter or music to class or  if student does not work diligently at the directed activity.

7. Students will turn in assignments when they are due. Note: Out of class practice is encouraged.

200 pts Technical playing tests will be given on scales and other skill exercises.

If you wish to purchase through the department check may be made out to PCHS Music department. Daily credit will be lost if a students fails to bring the following to each class: headphones with adapter & music or does not work diligently at the directed activity.
