Parkway Central Music Faculty



Matt Beazley has been the Assistant Director of Bands at Parkway Central High School since 2004. Matt graduated from Missouri State University with a Bachelors degree in music education.  Matt has studied trumpet with Dr. Grant Peters at Missouri State University and with Bob Ceccarini in St. Louis.  Matt has performed at the Missouri Music Educators Conference on several occasions, with the Missouri State Wind Ensemble and Symphoinc Band.  In 2001, he was able to perform with the Missouri State Trumpet Ensemble at the International Trumpet Guild Conference in Evansville, IN.

Matt spent four years in the drum and bugle corps activity.  In 1998 and 1999 he marched soprano bugle with the Colts Drum & Bugle Corps.  In 2000 and 2001, Matt was a member of the mellophone section in the World Champion Cavaliers Drum & Bugle Corps winning two consecutive gold medals.

Matt has toured throughout the Czech Republic, Germany and Holland with the St. Louis Gopel Choir & Orchestra on several occasions performing traditional and contemporary gospel music.  He is also a member of the worship team at Harvest Bible Chapel in St. Louis.

Matt is a member of MENC, PNEA, and Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia.



 





Doug Hoover has been the Director of Bands at Parkway Central High School since 1985 and Music Department Leader since 1992.  Prior to that he was assistant band director at Santa Fe New Mexico High School.

Under Mr. Hoover's leadership the Parkway Central Band has garnered critical acclaim for the high degree of musical accomplishment.  The Parkway Central Band has received national recognition by performing at such events as the Pasadena Tournament of Roses Parade, the Fiesta Bowl Parade, the MACY'S Thanksgiving Day Parade, the Miami Orange Bowl Parade and the 1989 U.S. Presidential Inaugural Parade for George H. W. Bush. 

The St. Louis Suburban Music Educators Association, the organization responsible for the All Suburban Honor Group Ensembles awarded Mr. Hoover the Outstanding Music Educator Award for 2014-15 and a Certificate of Merit Award in 1993-94.  Mr. Hoover has been awarded the Parkway Central Teacher of the Year Award and the John Schnell Award for Faculty Dedication and the Pillar of Parkway Award.  In 1998 he was selected to the "USA TODAY" All-American Teacher Team.

Mr. Hoover earned a Bachelor of Music degree from New Mexico State University and a Masters degree from Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville.  Mr. Hoover is married to Lori Hoover.  Doug and Lori have two children, Amy and Andy.




Ben Silvermintz has been the Director of Choral Activities at Parkway Central since 2008.  Previously, he served as a choir director in the Alamo Heights Independent School District in San Antonio, Texas.  A 2002 graduate of Parkway Central, Mr. Silvermintz attended The University of Texas at Austin (B.M. 2007) where he performed as a member of the the UT Concert Chorale and Texas Longhorn Band.  He earned a masters degree in 2012 from American Military University and has completed Level 1 of Kodaly Certification coursework at Wichita State University.  Mr. Silvermintz is a member of Kappa Kappa Psi, Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia, and Sigma Alpha Mu Fraternity.  He holds professional memberships in the American Choral Directors Association (ACDA), the National Association for Music Education (NAfME), and the Missouri Music Educators Association (MMEA).

Mr. Silvermintz has deployed to Afghanistan twice during his time at Parkway Central (2009-2010, 2013-2014) in support of Operation Enduring Freedom as a Soldier in the Army Reserve.  Ben sings with St. Louis' premier vocal band Vocal Edge, and directs the High Holy Day Choir at Congregation Shaare Emeth in Creve Coeur, Missouri.

Ben and his wife, Chelsea, are the proud parents of a curious toddler, Sawyer.
