Graded Scottish Fiddle Exams

We have an exciting opportunity for Central students to take the Royal
Scottish Academy of Music Scottish Fiddle (all string instruments) exams.
These are the traditional Scottish music exams offered by conservatories
to test students abilities at different levels of achievement.  Our guest artist
clinician, Brian MacNeill, on of the most renown experts in the field will be
offering these exams on Oct. 2nd, Friday here at Central High School.

We are the only site in the country that offers this unique opportunity.
It is a unique opportunity for your child to play for the top expert in this field.
It also provides the chance for him or her to earn a unique credential.
Graded exams of this type are quite unusual and to have passed an exam
of this type is a wonderful experience.  We have had a number of students
take this exams in the past and have been quite successful at it. I think it is
a unique and extraordinary educational experience whether they pass or not.

There are 3 levels of exams available.  Grade 3, 4 and 5.   I have
repertoire suggestions so that students can be preparing right away.
There are other parts of the exam including scales and arpeggios and
aural recognition of different styles of music.  Most students have been
studying a set of Grade 4 repertoire in class.  This repertoire must be
memorized in order to take the exam.  Grade 3 and 5 level repertoire is
available also.  I passed out information last spring regarding these exams
and I have packets available should anyone need specific lists of requirements.
If Central orchestra students feel confident of their memorization of the
repertoire they have the skills to quickly prepare the rest of the exam already.

More information is available at the RSAMD website at
(http://gradedexams.rsamd.ac.uk). The fiddle repertoire collections are now
available as well from www.scotlandsmusic.com and MP3 tracks can be
heard, or single tune scores downloaded, from www.playscottishmusic.com.
Please see Mrs Crock for repertoire suggestions and fees involved.
