PCHS Orchestra Audition Information

Dear 8th Grade Orchestra  Students,

    I am looking forward to having you as a student in the high school orchestras next year. I know many of you already and have heard all of you play as an ensemble many times.  We have a great program at Central High and I want you to be a part of it.  Please see the descriptions of the orchestras at Central High School in the course guide or on the website. (www.musicpch.com).  Most freshman will be Concert I Orchestra. If you would like to be in Concert I next year, you may sign up for Concert I with Mr. Bradley’s recommendation.

    If you would like to audition for Symphonic Orchestra you will need to come to the high school after school on Thursday, February 3rd to play an audition for me.  Moving to an upper level orchestra is the equivalent of skipping a grade so your audition is very important.  I expect excellent posture and superior intonation from everyone, however if you wish to be in an upper level orchestra you must demonstrate a more advanced level of musical maturity, technical ability and musical knowledge.  I need to be sure you can be successful before moving you ahead.  In addition, I must maintain a balanced instrumentation in each orchestra.  I am purposely giving you a short window of time to prepare your audition as quick preparation is one of the requirements of high school orchestra. 


Symphonic Auditions will take place after school on February 14 & 15 at PCHS in room 120.  Please call me at 314-415-7935 or email me and leave a message saying that you wish to audition.  Auditions will be first come, first serve beginning at 3:00 pm.  8th grade students may come to PCHS and warmup immediately after middle school dismissal. 

    3 Octave scales for your instrument as indicated.
    Orchestra excerpts as indicated.
    A solo that demonstrates your technical and musical playing skills,                 Sight reading if necessary       
       
    I look forward to seeing all of you soon.  Please call me with any questions about the orchestras or the auditions or enrollment in general.  Please leave your name and home phone number when you call.  I will not be able to give you the audition results until later in the year due to enrollment issues at the high school.
