PCHS Orchestra Audition Information

Dear 9th, 10th and 11th Grade Orchestra  Students,

    I love having you in my class now and I am looking forward to having you as a student in the high school orchestras next year.

    If you would like continue to be in Concert II.  Sign up and let me know you are continuing on the enrollment sheet. If you are moving from Concert I to Concert II if you received an A or B in the class your may continue in the sequence to Concert II without an additional audition. If you would like to be in Symphonic Orchestra you will need to play an audition for me. 

    The Symphonic Auditions will take place on February 14th for violins and violas.  February 15th for cellists.  While I know your playing well, your audition is still very important.  We expect excellent posture and superior intonation from everyone, however if you wish to be in an upper level orchestra you must demonstrate a more advanced level of musical maturity, technical ability and musical knowledge.  We need to be sure you can be successful before moving you ahead.  In addition, I must maintain a balanced instrumentation in each orchestra.  We are purposely giving you a short window of time to prepare your audition as quick preparation is one of the requirements of high school orchestra. 

    Auditions will be first come, first serve beginning at 3:00 pm. 

    Three Octave scales for your instrument as indicated
    Orchestra excerpts as indicate
    A solo that demonstrates your technical and musical playing skills.
    Sight reading if necessary       
       
    I look forward to hearing many of you soon. If your schedule looks crowded for next year, come see and let’s find a solution. Please call me with any questions about the orchestras or the auditions or enrollment in general. Please leave your name and home phone number if you call. I will not be able to give you the audition results until later in the year due to enrollment issues at the high school.  

    Please sign up for Concert Orchestra II on your schedule in the meantime.  I will adjust the schedules as necessary based on your auditions. Thanks so much.
